Singtel mioTV on Fibre

I decided to call Singtel to ask them about getting mioTV on my fibre connection. I have a Starhub service bundle for internet access, a digital telephone line and cable TV, all of which I’m quite happy with at the moment. The internet and telephone services are running over fibre which is both fast and stable. This means I just need the mioTV service from Singtel to run over the fibre connection.

The reason I decided to finally sign up for mioTV was the upcoming start to the F1 season. Then there is the EPL, which I’ve not watched so far this year, apart from Liverpool thrashing Manchester United (Yay!) while I was in China. Given Liverpool’s form at the start of the season, I’ve not missed much!

After getting through to a lady on the Singtel enquiry line I explained that I didn’t have any current Singtel services and I would like to sign up to mioTV using the fibre connection. The lady then explained that I would have to sign up for a bundle to get mioTV on the fibre connection! That’s right, I would need another internet connection service that I would never use and a phone line that I would never use, just to get mioTV!

The other option, if I didn’t want to use fibre, is to use the ADSL connection through a standard Singtel telephone line. The problem is that I don’t have a Singtel telephone line and would have to sign up for a new line, that I would never use!

It strikes me as a strange business policy to not want customers who are using competitive products to try a unique service as a foot-in-the-door to upsell or convert customers over time.

If someone is listening at Singtel then please come up with an offering that allows customers who are willing to pay for a mioTV service on fibre to purchase JUST that!

      Mohd Saffie, It looks like you have a good deal there with the bundle. The issue for me is I just want the MioTv and not the whole bundle as I have the Starhub bundle on fiber, which works well for me. Anyway, I gave in and the MioTV guys are coming around on Monday the 11th to install the ADSL version.

    Had a very sad story for SingNet Fiber Broadband Installation experience

    Sian,This morning when SingTel want to connect to exStream Fibre,But because of Opennet cock up,no connection to the internet at all.All the connection to SingTel passed except Opennet.At the same time,SingNet disconnect my old 10Mbps mio Home at the same time.They said is most porbably my unit cable to another unit Distrubtion Point and vice versa.

    Next appointment will be on 1 month later provided Opennet Fixed that.Otherwise,a week after that.

    SingTel said that the connection for fibre is connected wrongly to the neighbours riser.The Reinstallation will be after Opennet has fixed the connection failure at this block.I am not sure that other units are affected as well.So they take back the ONT,2wire 5012NV RG and mio TV box(with 1 GBPS port in it) and they offered a free 10Mbps mio Home till TP problem has rectified.

    Before they take back the fibre away,My mother experienced a 2wire 5012NV-002 SERVICE LED was red,ONT PON LED not lighted up and mio TV STB stuck at the purple screen without any broadcast service at all.They spent at my house from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and the TP problem is still not fixed.

    Now I cannot use exPlore Home Sports 200Mbps service(mio TV/200Mbps Fiber Broadband and mio Voice) over fibre.The billing for these 3 services(mio TV,200Mbps Fiber Broadband and mio Voice) will not start today due to technical problems at OpenNet Termination Point.They reactivated my old mio Home 10Mbps at the same day after they left 1 hour later.

    I am super pissed off about this service they are handling and I cannot share the speedtest results for now.

    Can they understand the idea of fibre optics when OpenNet are not ready.I wanted to move from mio Home to fiber,but it is not a success.They tried 6 ONT,2wire 5012NV-002,mio TV STB,call backend,do software upgrade,reset ONT,2wire,mio TV STB,hard reset of mio TV Box,2wire and ONT,the Opennet TP cannot give signal at all to singtel server side and their profile at their end also cannot find my data.

    Continued from part 1 of fiber installation fraustration experience SingNet Fiber Broadband Installation Technical problem part 2

    This Morning when another SingTel technican came to connect to exStream Fibre,Did the same thing again as last monday,The Opennet TP has no signal again for the 2nd time since last monday.It seems that the last few days,Opennet didn’t solve the problem.The whole data is linked to SingTel side except Opennet again.

    They tried the same 2wire 5012NV-002/Ericsson T063G ONT and mio TV Box(with 1Gbps in it) but PON LED on ONT is off,SERVICE LED on 2wire 5012NV-002 is red and the mio TV STB stucked at MIO TV words with “An error has occured,please restart your Set top box.

    They tried 6 ONT,2wire 5012NV-002,mio TV Box again like last monday,but no avail.They tried to upgrade the 2wire 5012NV firmware from 9.1.3.25 to 9.1.3.27/Hard reset of 2wire,ONT,mio TV Set Top Box,Change RJ45 cables but no avail.The TP has still no signal.They left at 10:55 am and Opennet Termination Point has no signal and no power.The guy tried to install the same plan at my neighbours house,also same problem.The whole block has having an outage on singnet fiber broadband since monday.2 of my friends staying in the same block also facing PON LED on ONT off,2wire 5012NV SERVICE LED is red and mio TV stucked at MIO TV words with An error as occured,please restart your Set top box problem.

    My exPlore Home Sports plan activation has been clauged by technical problems.I wanted to move from ADSL due to DSL disconnection issues during the rainy weather,mio TV Start up lag which channels play for 10 seconds,then it freezes till 2 min which is the longest.

    I wanted to use mio TV/200Mbps Broadband over Fiber,but since the Opennet TP has no signal,I cannot use it and I feel cheated about going to fiber exStream 200Mbps plan which comes with mio TV,Fiber Broadband and mio Voice plan in it.

    SingTel said that our Opennet TP in my house will have to undergo connection reset with Opennet.The point have some power issues because they did not test properly during our fibre installation on 26 Feburary 2011 at 2-4 pm by OpenNet guys.The Opennet guys that my exPlore Home Sports will be activated after Opennet guys have reset the Opennet TP a few months later and our house will have to undergo connection reset and rewiring of Opennet TP at my house at 15th May 2011.

    They tried as last wednesday,tried 2 ONT,2wire 5012NV-002,mio TV Box again.They tried to upgrade the 2wire 5012NV firmware from 9.1.3.25 to 9.1.3.27/Hard reset of 2wire,ONT,mio TV Set Top Box,Change RJ45 cables but no avail.The TP has still no signal.They left at 10:55 am and Opennet Termination Point has no signal and no power.The whole block has fixed except my house.

    My ONT,2wire 5012NV and new mio TV Set Top Box is under the TV rack with PON cables connected to the TP but cannot use as PON LED on the ONT is still off.I am using ADSL to post this.Lucky,I have my ADSL as a backup till Opennet fixed the TP problem.

    Wow, that’s really awfully bad luck! Opennet did a great job at my condo and I’ve had no problems with it. I have even run a 30m extension from the original termination point with no issues.

    I hope they can fix it sooner than they say as one month seems a long time to wait!

    Finally,my SingTel exStream fiber with mio TV Sports is up.SingTel,Singnet and Opennet has rectified the TP,ONT,2wire 5012NV and mio TV STB No signal problem on friday(22th April 2011).One of the singtel people did not know about this problem.The fiber reinstallation date was on 23rd April 2011 at 9-11 pm.
    Download Speed: 7573 kbps (946.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Upload Speed: 867 kbps (108.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
    This is I use Loopback mio Voice,mio TV and LAN switch at the same time and thus speed drop only to 75Mbps Download and 10Mbps Upload only.The PON LED on ONT is stable and no Disconnection issue since 1 week ago(23rd April 2011).I also have ADSL version of mio TV to compare which is good.So far,my fiber mio TV has no freeze or lag or hang or pixelation problem.My broadband is even faster than before.Mio Voice also good as no static sound before I move to fiber optics.The mio Voice is running on loopback method.
    my STB is brand new from Singtel.. just probably 3 weeks old since the installation of the fiber.. they replaced my old STB reason being it didnt sync well with the ONT.
    Me too having the same problem like 1 of my friends. I am not using a fully managed switch but a smart switch Cisco SLM2008. The Mio STB only works when connect via the 2Wire.My MioTV account was previously running on a dedicated ADSL line with separate land line number. I wonder if this is the reason why it didnt work directly from the switch.

    Glad it’s finally working!

    Yes, I’ve read that you have to use the provided hardware for MioTV otherwise it doesn’t work. I think there are some hacks to get around it, but you need specific hardware and it’s quite troublesome.

    SingTel exStream service out of service since 30th May 2011 since 6:00am to 10:00 am?.

    After I had a 38 days of usage of my exPlore Home Sports 200Mbps service via fiber service and it is very exciting as it seems and I had no problems.Only today,the problems cripple,mio TV Service Down,200Mbps Internet Down and mio Voice also DOWN!!!

    On 22nd April 2011,I install the exPlore Home Sports from SingTel which include mio TV sports content,I have been running the service for 1 whole month without problem.
    On 23rd April 2011,The mio TV,200Mbps Broadband and mio Voice is working fine without any problems when I watch EPL Game on fiber,it run smoothly.
    On 24th April till 22nd May,I had the service running very good without mio TV lagging issues,hang and pixelation issues.
    On 26th May 2011,It also ran without any problems till 29th May 2011 and I had watch a Football game without a hitch.
    On 29th May 2011,It has 37 days without any problem.
    On 30th May 2011,The problem came.To my horrior,my 2 mio TV STB,when I on those 2 TV in my house,It shows a 2 gear with a long progress bar,then a red X without showing any of my mio TV Channels at all.My computer room mio TV Box when I on it,it just shows purple screen with white “MIO TV” teh text with “An Error has occured,please restart your Set Top Box with saying Bootstrap unable to start your mio TV Channels and PON signal cannot be found and it said Data commucation for STB has failed and the set said is to call 1688 for assitance”message.My 2wire 5012NV-002 mio Voice also down due to Defective 2wire 5012NV showed red light at POWER indicator.Both of my mio Services are not working due to this.The 200Mbps Internet+Cisco SLM2008+2wire 2701HGV-E also cannot work due to this.My internet also facing issue as well.The mio Box 2wire 2701HGV-E modem also shown retriving DNS information as well.Weird,singtel website,hardwarezone and local website can work.I can’t surf Overseas sites as it cannot open the page at all.The symptom for me simply the 2WIRE cannot get any IP allocation, and Internet indicator light is off. At the ONT, the the PON light is off too.The problem now for me is no mio TV,200Mbps Fiber Broadband and mio Voice at all now on fiber point.I am now left in the dark.I basically move to fiber broadband due to ADSL disconnecting during the raining days.
    Should be we calling the lawyers from SingNet to investigate about this.

    SingTel rectified the problem already.Tech Changed HPNA,2wire,ONT,STB and Comtrend for me already.Tech said is most proboraly is 1 setting failed at their modem at our side.The thing is IP address for fiber mio TV is 192.168.0.254 not 192.168.1.254.

    Problem solved already.I can use FTTH mio TV,Broadband and mio Voice and DSL mio TV Service.

    1st 42Days,my exStream works without any issues at all till today morning.After blackout,my exStream service went down and bonkers at around 8:00 am today morning.SingTel told me that they are sending a technician on 12th June 2011 to take a look.

    1)Verify that the ETHERNET cable is properly connected between the Fiber Termination Device and the gateway’s BROADBAND port.
    2)Make sure that there is no other connections,i:e DSL Connection,connected to the gateway’s PHONE LINE port.
    3)After you have checked the above connections,restart your gateway and try again.

    For more details on the physical setup of your gateway,please refer to your Quick Installation Guide with your gateway of visit http://www.singnet.com.sg/technical.

    For DSL broadband Subscribers

    mio Voice also down for me too.No phone are ringing at all and they said all down.Broadband light on 2wire 5012NV flashing green and therefore mio TV and mio Voice is down.My Internet also down due to ONT PON LED is switched off.
    I am without mio TV,Internet and mio Voice at all!!!

    I’m having some problems with my SingNet this morning. Tried as I did, I just couldn’t get the Internet. My local network was working as I could get my old 2wire 2701HGV-E to work, but I just couldn’t get to the Internet. Fully thing is that my computer could get DHCP from the 2wire, but I can’t connect to the 2wire IP, nor can I ping it. Also, I was able to ping http://www.singnet.com.sg once, but subsequently, I couldn’t.I am still w/o Internet at this time.

    1)Service and Broadband LED on 2wire 5012NV-002 shut off and no Internet access
    2)mio Voice is down due to Service LED on 2wire 5012NV-002 shut off.
    3)mio TV 3 box using HPNA(Room 1,2,3) unit is down.mio TV showed a 2 gear icon.
    4)Link and Signal Quality on Aztech HN100SF blinking continiously green and red.
    5)mio TV and mio Voice is down
    6)Voice 1 not lighted up
    7)Only Ethernet 1 lighted up.
    8)My Internet certain websites very very slow
    9)ONT LED on PON is red in colour
    10)I corfirm that the 2wire RG,mio STB and ONT is dead.

    Yesterday,mio TV,200Mbps and mio Voice is working okay till today 2:00 am.At 2:00AM,The mio TV,mio Box(5012NV) and ONT is dead fully.The mio Services on fiber is not working totally due to 2wire 5012NV stucked at RED POWER LED.mio TV Stucked at “2 Gear Icon” and PON LED on ONT is red.

    You mentioned you have run a 30m extension from you Fibre Termination Point(as provided by Open Net. Does this mean that the extension you used is a Fibre Optic cable as well? My FTP is located at my main door and around 8-10 meters from my living room. I’m inclined to signup for fibre optics but want to know if it’s possible to have a fibre optic extension from the FTP to my living room where I’ll have the service provider’s ONT and modem…

      Hi Ricky,

      Yes, I’ve used a 30m fibre optic cable to move the optical network terminal (ONT) into one of the bedrooms that I use as an office/study. It was simply a matter of purchasing the cable, unplugging the existing one and replacing it with the longer cable. I ran my cable along the existing conduit on top of the skirting board, up the wall and around the ceiling to the study, then down the wall and under the door. I really should do another blog post with some photos to show people what can be done!

      I purchased my cable from LHS in Sim Lim Tower. I assume all the cables are the same, so you’ll need an SC terminated cable. Check out what that looks like from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_fiber_connector.

    Here to share my experience with excellent service for exPlore Home 50 from SingTel and Just installed on 24th June 2011 with mio TV Service.

    I also have mio TV at home along with Fiber Internet Service.Before that,my mio TV make pixelation and freezing when using 2nd Home line+Aztech DSL1000ER(T) bundle.I watched any soccer broadcast or any programme,it has no lag at all on my mio TV as I am using exPlore Home 50 plan From SingTel.The 2wire 5012NV has powerful motherboard.They said that this router is reliable and better than my old Aztech DSL1000ER(T) and 2wire 2701HGV-E.2nd Set-Top Box also provided but paid $12.84 for that STB.I had a pleasent experience for Fibre Broadband.Those of you want to solve your mio TV problems,please refer to my soloutions below

    To solve your mio TV problems,
    1.)Change to exPlore Home 50 at $64.90/month but pay $5.35 for 2wire RG
    2.)Use 2nd line for mio TV

    Since yesterday,my exStream aka exPlore Home 50 was down since 6:40 am yesterday.

    During that time which is yesterday,mio TV is working fine and Internet is not working.Today,my mio TV in the morning is fine but at night when I wanted to watch Everton vs Manchester United and Chelsea and Arsenal and other matches and Masterchef Malaysia on Astro RIA channel 34 on mio TV,mio TV and 50Mbps Internet has been down since 7:00 PM.Tried on and off the ONT,RG,STB,It still dosen’t work.The “SERVICE” led has been red since yesterday.SingTel said that Fiber cable got damaged and they are looking into it.Checked that the 2wire hanged without any movement at all and no ip assigned at all.

    When First Installed my exPlore Home 50 @ $64.90/month with $5.35/RG Charge,It ran without any problems till last Friday,the fiber net access and mio TV was down already.

    I sincerly that those who are sports fan,can SingTel up the Fiber again so that I can watch BPL again and a lot of BPL matches missed due to Distruption of Fiber services.

    Now my exStream is back up already.But for 2 of my friends has the Service Light Red and his mio TV will only work intermittently.Most of the time,all his services down!!!

    Only mine and others works without issues except 2 of them which is still DOWN!!!.

    SingTel’s fibre services hit by network glitch

    SINGAPORE – SingTel’s fibre services were affected by a network glitch over the weekend, disrupting some customers’ home phone, broadband and cable television services.

    Apologising for the glitch yesterday, SingTel said that services were progressively restored from 11.30am yesterday. By 5.30pm yesterday, all services were restored.

    MediaCorp received calls from affected customers in parts of Pasir Ris, Simei and Tampines.

    According to a SingTel spokesman, “some customers in Tampines” were affected.

    The spokesman added: “We are unable to share specific figures at this stage. However, the problem was isolated, intermittent and equipment-related.”

    According to the spokesman, the network glitch occurred for “some hours between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, and then again between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning”.

    Said the spokesman: “The intermittent problem took us some time to isolate and pinpoint together with equipment manufacturer Ericsson because it’s the first time this sort of problem has happened anywhere in the world. We are working with our vendor to ensure it does not happen again. We apologise to those customers who were impacted and thank them for their patience.”

    Affected customers said they experienced intermittent interruptions to their fibre services, including mioTV and broadband.

    Information Technology executive Ong Kok Ning, 55, told Today that since Friday evening, his Internet, Internet home phone line and mioTv services were affected.

    His family drove from their home in Simei to Temasek Club in Portsdown Road to use the Internet services there.

    Said Mr Ong: “We were badly affected as our whole family uses the Internet frequently. I access my office emails through my home network while my daughters use it for their schoolwork. It’s so critical to have a connection.”

    I recommend those of you go to SingTel Fiber exPlore ?Home 50.This is a first good experience.5 months into Fiber Service so far so good except on 28-30 October 2011 outage.The rest of the year is fine.Mio TV has worked flawlessly without freezing or hanging except for sharing resources.

    Hi, i see that you are using a set of Aztech HN100SF. I tried to contact singtel today but said they do not offer this option yet. I have a big problem with the wiring as my TP is in my study room. To wire all the way to the living room would mess up my deco. Therefore i hope you can share with me via email how you managed to get a set of Aztech HN100SF for your mio tv.

      This Soloution does not work for my home at all.In June 2011,SingTel Staff changed ONT,2wire and mio TV STB and downgrade the plan to exPlore Home 50 in my house as the HPNA Devices did not work in my house.Ever remove the HPNA,the fiber Service works Properly Since then.

    Hi Henry,

    Hopefully Mohd Saffie can get back to you. I did believe that Singtel provided these devices at some stage, as they have the support info. on their website.

    I asked Aztech about these devices when I first heard about them and they said that they were in a trial phase. Then at the recent IT Show at Suntec I went to the Aztech stand and received blank looks when I asked about them.

    I hope they do get them to work and become released products as they would help a lot of people, just like you.

    I was lucky in that I could get fibre to my study and back out to the living room with one duplex cable, but it’s still not that attractive!

    Wow,my mio TV first time got problems after the upgrade to SingTel mio TV VER 2.0 Firmware.The problems are:
    >All the time Freezes/Stop Start when changing to Channel 102(HD)
    >All channel information not following the program.Instead it shows past week info.
    >STB loading took about 6++ Minutes to load
    >HDMI output lights up, probably still active instead of going power saving even after TV off.
    >Intermittent VER 2.0 message on TV Problem.

    My mio TV recently started to give problem.The Set-Top Box is Unable to receive mio TV Service for 5 Days already.It said Please Wait… The mio TV Service is initiating and loading.The Image on TV is Black Screen and I cannot watch any content that was showing on mio TV.Only Internet and Home line is working.

    The mio TV Specialist Team will only come to my house to fix this mio TV issue was only on Wednesday.

    Also my SingTel 5012NV-002 also kept rebooting on and off for no reason.The Service LED also kena blinking like mad like once a week.

    Pace A5520N is a problemetic RG by SingTel.These problems are

    >Cannot Detect Internet line after 2 Days of usage
    >Cannot watch mio Stadium on mio TV properly because this RG does not work for Concurrent BPL soccer matches.Other channles will also get the same issue too as A5520N cannot detect mio TV at all.
    >Cannot detect mio TV as the IPTV LED will be solid red even if you on your mio TV Box.
    >mio TV will lag intermittently every week

    So if you want to use this A5520N please stay put first.

    My RG 5012NV has just replaced to Pace A5520N RG.The old router had just broken down with Red Service indicator on 5012NV the stable router for mio TV with no pixelation,lagging,skip frame and freezing issues and it is a dual core procceesor.SingTel told me is router is spoilt.

    I don’t know that Pace A5520N got IPTV Packet loss issues but it had not happened to mine yet.

    A long Story for SingTel Fibre Bundle Service Problem.

    On 3rd March 2013,Last week,while watching Primadona 2 on Astro Ria,the tv suddenly shows TV Signal has been lost,please call 1688(For Home Users) or 1606(For Business Users):,(Code 150).
    On 9th March 2013, We recontract exPlore Home 100(Same plan as we upgrade from exPlore Home 50 in October 2012) and they told me that there will be no new modem and Set-Top Box replacement as they are in good condition.But after we went home from Marina Bay Sands,at 9:00 PM till 10th March 2013 at 3:00PM on 10th March 2013,the modem reboot 10 times so they replaced the modem.This week is the worst one ever seen,the modem decided to hang itself and mio TV decided to stop working,once showed TV Signal has been lost message for four times the whole evening and after that it switched to VER 2.3 with whole screen blank.
    On 10th March 2013, SingTel came and replace my Pace A5520N to Asus N66U for replacement but same issue persisted and we called 1688 again and they agreed to come on Monday at 12:00 to 2:00 PM to solve this issues.
    On Monday 11th March 2013,they came again for the 2nd time to replace both 2nd mio TV Set-Top Box branded Tatung STB 2300 SG-1 and Asus N66U to Pace A5520N due to some network conflicts issue and They replaced it for free of charge.But on Monday,18th March 2013,the Pace A5520N started to reboot by itself again at random timings and watching BPL is a pain as the modem crashed
    On Friday 22nd March 2013 they came and replaced from Pace A5520N to 2wire 5012NV modem due to Xperia P Phone and the modem also have issues too.The Service LED turned red and the modem Hard reset by itself due to glitches and also My mio TV also got 2 gears screen issue before.SingTel guy came over and replace the STB at no extra charge.Pace A5520N was also replaced at the same time to replace the faulty 5012NV on monday.
    On Monday 25th March 2013,SingTel Fibre Technician guys come to my house and told me this They said no need to waste time.Your mio TV STB is very faulty and I will replace it free of charge and after that the problem will be solved after all and do not switch off everything from the power socket and then he started to replaced both Mio TV Set-Top Box and 5012NV modem to brand new Motorola VIP1200 AP mio TV Set-Top Box,Power Adapter and remote controller as a replacement.then he changed from 5012NV modem to Pace A5520N modem and upgrade the software on the modem to most stable firmware to support mio TV and Internet.Then,the technician tested the 2 newly installed mio TV and newly activated 100MBPS Fibre Internet
    Now,my exPlore Home 100 with mio TV Family+ Pack is activated on 25th March 2013 instead of 16 March 2013 as stated in the contract stated in the form.
    After replacement on monday,today morning they called my father and they will give us 2 weeks free subscription as viewing of mio TV Content is interrupted and cannot surf internet at all.

    The video about mio TV Problems to show you guys is not available for viewing and to share for those who come with this problem in the future.
